Our Mission

The mission of Protective Innovations is to bring effective, affordable gunshot detection and alarm technology to market for the first time, enabling a not-too-distant future where gunshot detection is as ubiquitous as fire alarms, and the current wave of mass shootings in schools and public buildings is a distant memory.

Who We Are

Protective Innovations (PI) is a Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business which has developed an artificial intelligence based indoor gunshot detection and alarm system, the ASD, that integrates directly with existing fire alarm and mass notification systems.  The ASD is based on US Patent Number 9,830,932, originally developed by the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) and commercialized by PI under an exclusive Patent License Agreement, via the Air Force Technology Transfer Program.

Timothy Mathisen

Operations and Logistics Support

Tim was a key player in the founding of Protective Innovations, leveraging his previous experience in the military and as well as in public sector safety products sales to coordinate support for PI’s test, demonstration and installation projects. An alumnus of Lipscomb University, Tim holds degrees in Criminal Justice Administration and Conflict Management, and is currently pursuing a graduate degree in Aviation Safety and Security at Middle Tennessee State University. He brings additional leadership experience to the team as a US military officer and UH-60 Blackhawk pilot.

On a personal note, Tim was a member of the United States Marine Corps Reserve unit in Chattanooga, TN which suffered an active shooter attack, claiming the lives of five servicemembers, in July 2015. While he was not present on the morning of the attack, this personal connection gives Tim special passion to protect his fellow service members and the public at large from such atrocities.

Investors and Advisors

Subject Matter Experts

Protective Innovations has assembled a team of investors and advisors who are subject matter experts in engineering, marketing, finance and other disciplines. Our team includes a senior electrical engineer with a flight test background in the United States Air Force as well as experience supporting the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency (DARPA), a former member of the initial cadre of the Pentagon’s Joint Artificial Intelligence Center (JAIC) who holds a graduate degree in engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), a Baylor University trained economist and several former US military officers who bring invaluable leadership and management experience to PI.

ASD was designed and developed in partnership with a major national fire protection engineering firm, ensuring integration and compatibility with commercial fire protection and security monitoring systems, as well as regulatory compliance with applicable National Fire Protection Association standards. Yet another of our advisors was formerly a senior technical manager at one of the top fire and security alarm monitoring companies in the United States.
